The Catholic Church and a group of parishioners
known as the "Christian Faithful", became outraged here in
Phoenix, when they learned that their Priest, Father Saul Madrid, had a small part in my
film. The story is long and tiring. To put it in a few words, it deals with
injustice, ignorance, power and intolerance. For three months or so, I had to
witness the persecution and eventual virtual crucifixion of a good man, Father
Saul.
It's always difficult to understand fanatism of any kind, but after
observing and participating in this painful episode of mass hysteria
and irrationality one has to conclude that proximity to God has little to do with
frequenting his house.
Here are a few links that you may find interesting. I call them what I
think they should be called: |

a fanatic lies, |

becomes like candy, |

he can't stop licking. |

"As by the fires of experience, so by commission of
crime you learn real morals. Commit all crimes, familiarize yourself with all
sins, take them in rotation (there are only two or three thousand of them),
stick to it, commit two or three every day, and by and by you will be proof
against them. When you are through you will be proof against all sins and
morally perfect. You will be vaccinated against every possible commission of
them. This is the only way."
-- Mark Twain on Being Morally Perfect. |
